Reporting to the Deputy Clerk, the Casual Crossing Guard (Rover) provides relief coverage to existing staff. This position corresponds with the normal school year commencing in September and ending in June. There is a requirement to be available for shifts in the morning and at the end of the school day.

The primary responsibilities for this position include (but not limited to) the following:

  • Assist school children in crossing roads safely at specified school crossing locations by being observant and practicing good judgement.
  • Exercise appropriate authority in a decisive and fair manner to require vehicles to stop at the crossing while holding a stop sign in such a manner that it is visible to approaching vehicles.
  • Communicate traffic and crossing rules to the general public.
  • Report and document concerns, incidents, or violations of procedure to the Deputy Clerk.

The successful candidate will have as a minimum the following qualifications:

  • Ability to walk, stand and hold a stop sign for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to work independently, unsupervised and exercise good judgement in order to determine safe crossing.
  • Previous experience working with children is considered an asset.
  • Previous customer service experience is considered an asset.
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check required.
