Council Highlights February 10th, 2025

Fire Department Presentations

Council congratulated Fire Fighters Dwayne Lalonde (20 years) and Mark L’Abbe (36 years) on their respective retirements from the Arnprior Fire Department and wished them well.

The Governor General Exemplary Fire Service Award was presented to Fire Fighter David Wiggins for 20 years of service.

Program and Events Winter/Spring Update

Council was informed of all the recreation programming events taking place this Winter season including Wintermission, Famfest on February 17th and the Youth Sports Program. Also noted were the upcoming Spring events such as:

  • St. Paddy’s Party March 15th – 1:00-4:00pm
  • The Bunny Run – NEW - April 19th
  • Easter Egg Hunt in the Parks
  • Spring Sport Programs – registration opens February 18th
  • Camp Registration
  • Counsellor in Training

Official Plan/Zoning By-law Amendment – Private Roads

Staff presented a report on a proposed amendment to the Town’s Official Plan to consider permitting the use of private streets for future development and recommend policies and provisions for implementation. Council deferred making a decision until further information is provided by the Planner at a future meeting.

Zoning By-law Amendment – Fourth Avenue at McNab Street

Council received an application for amendments to the zoning provisions of the lands at the corner of Fourth Avenue and McNab Street. A public meeting is scheduled for March 10th, 2025 during the regular meeting of Council to allow for public comment.

Proclamation for Rare Disease Day (February 28,2025)

Council proclaimed February 28th, 2025 as Rare Disease Day in the Town of Arnprior and note that the Arnprior and District Museum’s clock tower will be lit up with the colours of blue, green, pink and purple to show our support.

Proclamation for Wear Red Canada Day (February 13,2025)

Council proclaimed February 13, 2025 as “Wear Red Canada Day” in the Town of Arnprior and encourage all local residents to wear red to recognize heart disease and its impacts on our communities, and to commit to increase their own personal awareness of heart health.

By-Laws

Council passed a by-laws to:

  • Adopt 2025 Operating and Capital Budget
  • Adopt 2024 Works-In-Progress (WIP)
  • Adopt 2025 User Fees and Charges By-Law(
  • Adopt Water and Wastewater Rates Study (
  • Appointment of Council Member to Committee of Adjustment (Councillor Lynch)
  • Appointment of Council Member to Arnprior & Area Physician Recruitment Committee (Councillor Cloutier)

Resolutions:

Council passed a resolution to approve the 20 Year Long Range Capital Forecast (2026-2045) as a financial planning tool, to be used to inform the annual budget process, as well as, other financial planning processes and documents.

Council also passed a resolution to authorize $7,500 of in-kind support for services including staff time and facility use of the Nick Smith Centre for the Senior Active Living Centre (SALC) for 2025.
