Council Highlights - April 22nd, 2024

Public Meeting – Temporary Use By-law for 10 William Street
Council held a public meeting to receive public input for a temporary use zoning by-law amendment to allow a small manufacturing use to operate at 10 William Street for up to three years with possibility of extensions. A staff report will be presented to Council on May 13th, 2024 for their consideration on this matter.
Community Improvement Plan Grant – 67 Madawaska Street
Council approved a grant under the Signage Improvement Program for 67 Madawaska Street in an amount of up to $500.
Robert Simpson Park Canteen Lease
Council authorized a Lease Agreement with Jaydog (Cari Reid) for the Robert Simpson Park canteen for a one-year term from May 1, 2024 to April 30, 2025 with an additional one-year renewal option.
Capital Project – McNab Street Sidewalk
Due to issues arising with the design of the Madawaska Boulevard pathway project which was originally intended to be constructed in 2024, Council agreed to instead proceed with the McNab Street Sidewalk project in 2024, delaying the Madawaska Boulevard project until 2025. This year, the construction will see sidewalks installed on the west side of McNab Street from Madawaska Boulevard to McLean Avenue.
Tender Award – Water Pollution Control Centre (WPCC) Roof Replacement
The Town tendered the WPCC Roof Replacement project and received seven tender bids. Council agreed to award the project to Morin Insulation & Roofing Limited for a total of $200,530.00 (plus HST) and the quality assurance and contract administration services to Rimkus for a total of $8,500.00 (plus HST). Council had budgeted $125,000 in this year’s Capital Budget for the project. The budget shortfall of $87,708.93 will be funded through the Wastewater Reserve Fund.
New Deputy Clerk Appointed
Council passed a by-law appointing Oliver Jacob as Deputy Clerk. Oliver has been with the town in various positions, starting as a Co-op Student in 2014. We congratulate Oliver on his new appointment!
Proclamations and Resolutions
Council proclaimed the following:
- First Responders Day – May 1st, 2024
- Emergency Preparedness Week – May 5th - May 11th, 2024
- Museum Month – May 2024
- Community Living Month – May 2024
The following resolutions were passed:
- Rotary Club of Arnprior – Council approved a request for in-kind support, through the waiving of fees for the Special Event Licence, the Rental of the Robert Simpson Park Gazebo, as well as providing Town staff support for the set up and tear down of the Butter Tart Festival event being held August 24th, 2024.
- Pflag Canada Arnprior Chapter – Council approved a request for waiving the Nick Smith Centre Community Hall rental fees for the Valley Diversity Emporium to be held on June 22nd, 2024.
- Arnprior Optimists Club – Council approved a request for waiving the Nick Smith Centre Community Hall rental fees for their Talent Show Event to be held on May 25th, 2024.
- Renfrew County 55+ Summer Games – Council approved their request for waiving the Nick Smith Centre slab rental fees for their Carpet Bowling event on May 17th, 2024 and the Pickleball events June 3rd and 5th, 2024.
