2026 Budget Process

Annually, the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Arnprior considers public feedback in the budget process. The 2025 public budget consultation meeting will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2025 at 6:00 PM in Council Chambers with several community organizations making presentations to Council.

Agenda packages are made available on the Friday in advance of Council meetings on the Town’s website at www.arnprior.ca/meetings. All Council meetings are also livestreamed and published on the Town’s YouTube channel at www.arnprior.ca/youtube.

Changes to the 2026 Budget Process

As of May 1, 2025, the Ontario government has expanded Strong Mayor powers to the Town of Arnprior as per O.Reg. 530/22. Strong Mayor powers offer resources to heads of Council to accelerate the implementation of key shared municipal-provincial priorities such as housing, transit, and infrastructure.

As per the Mayoral Decision #MDE-2025-01 (arnprior.ca/strongmayor) there are changes to the budget process for 2026. There are no set budget deliberation meetings scheduled at this time.If directed by the Mayor, the budget and meeting dates will be posted at www.arnprior.ca/budget. The legislation does outline specific timelines for the adoption of the budget:

  • By February 1 the Mayor must introduce a proposed budget.
  • Up to 30 days* after receiving the proposed budget Council can make amendments to the proposed budget by passing resolutions with a simple majority vote.
  • Up to 10 days* following the Council amendment period the Mayor can veto one or more council amendments.
  • Up to 15 days* following veto period Council can override some or all of the Mayor’s vetoes with a 2/3 majority of council vote.

At any step , if there are no amendments or vetoes, the budget is deemed to be adopted by the municipality.

*Council or the Mayor can shorten any time period via resolution or decision.
