The Town of Arnprior is seeking an experienced and motivated Operations Supervisor to join our Recreation Department.
Reporting to the Director of Recreation, the Operations Supervisor is a key member of the Recreation management team and is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Town's recreation facilities, parks, sports fields, marina, and other municipal assets. The position provides leadership to a diverse team of full-time, part-time, seasonal, and student staff while ensuring the delivery of safe, efficient, and high-quality services to residents and visitors.
The Operations Supervisor oversees the operation and maintenance of the Nick Smith Centre, Town Hall, Stanley Tourangeau Fire/OPP Building, D.A. Gillies Building, Library Building, Museum facilities, parks, sports fields, marina assets, and related equipment. This role is responsible for ensuring facilities are safe, accessible, well-maintained, and ready for public use while supporting recreation programs, special events, and community initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise facilities, parks, marina, and seasonal staff, including scheduling, training, recruitment, performance management, and employee development.
- Promote and maintain a strong workplace health and safety culture while ensuring compliance with applicable legislation, regulations, and Town policies.
- Oversee the day-to-day operation, maintenance, inspection, and safety of municipal facilities, parks, sports fields, marina assets, and related equipment.
- Ensure municipal facilities and amenities are safe, functional, accessible, and prepared for public use.
- Coordinate preventative maintenance programs, facility inspections, repairs, and operational projects.
- Support asset management planning, facility condition assessments, and long-term capital replacement strategies.
- Respond to operational issues, emergencies, weather-related events, customer concerns, and special event requirements.
- Assist with the development, administration, and monitoring of operating and capital budgets while ensuring cost-effective service delivery.
- Coordinate procurement activities, contractor services, and vendor relationships.
- Support the successful delivery of recreation programs, community events, and public initiatives.
- Build positive working relationships with residents, user groups, community partners, contractors, and Town staff.
- Provide operational leadership and decision-making support in the absence of the Director of Recreation as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in facility operations, recreation, maintenance, or a related field.
- Minimum four to five (4–5) years of progressive experience in recreation, facilities, parks, marina, or related operations.
- Demonstrated supervisory and leadership experience.
- Strong knowledge of facility operations, maintenance practices, and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Experience with budgeting, planning, and coordinating operational activities.
- Excellent communication, organizational, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
- Valid Class G Driver's License with a satisfactory driver's abstract.
- Ability to obtain a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check.
Preferred Qualifications
- Refrigeration "B" License, Certified Arena Refrigeration Plant Technician (CARPT), or equivalent refrigeration experience.
- Pool Operator Level 1 Certification.
- Playground Inspection Certification.
- Certified Ice Technician designation.
- Fireworks Operator Certificate.
- Ontario Recreation Facilities Association (ORFA) certification.
- First Aid and CPR/AED certification.
- Related workplace health and safety training.
- Experience working in a unionized environment
- Experience with municipal asset management and capital planning.
Working Environment
This position requires a hands-on leadership approach and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced municipal environment. The successful candidate must be available to respond to operational issues, emergencies, weather-related events, and special events outside of regular business hours when required.
