The Town of Arnprior is seeking a dynamic and motivated Economic Development Officer to join our Development Services team.
Reporting to the Manager, Development Services, the Economic Development Officer plays an important role in advancing the Town's economic development, tourism, business attraction and retention, and investment-readiness initiatives. Working collaboratively across Development Services, this position helps strengthen Arnprior's economic base, support existing businesses, attract new investment, and contribute to the continued growth and prosperity of the community.
The successful candidate will build strong relationships with businesses, entrepreneurs, investors, community partners, government agencies, and other stakeholders while developing and implementing initiatives that support Arnprior as a great place to live, work, invest, and do business.
Key Responsibilities
• Coordinate the development and implementation of economic development programs, policies, and strategies that support business growth, job creation, investment, and community prosperity.
• Lead and support economic development strategies related to tourism, business retention and expansion, retail demand, and investment readiness.
• Build relationships with existing businesses, entrepreneurs, potential investors, community partners, and economic development organizations.
• Support business attraction and retention by connecting businesses with government programs, funding opportunities, workforce resources, and community services.
• Conduct research and analyze economic trends, opportunities, emerging practices, and local business needs to support informed decision-making.
• Prepare information and promotional materials for prospective investors interested in establishing or expanding commercial, service, and industrial opportunities in Arnprior.
• Collaborate with Development Services staff to support economic development, planning, growth, construction, and land development initiatives.
• Represent the Town at meetings, committees, networks, task forces, community events, and other economic development activities.
• Prepare and deliver reports, presentations, marketing materials, and communications for a variety of audiences.
• Coordinate economic development and tourism marketing and promotional initiatives.
• Manage and support the successful operation of the Arnprior Market, including supervision of seasonal staff.
• Support the Manager, Development Services with development files, special projects, and other departmental initiatives as required.
The position has significant external contact with local businesses, community leaders, other municipalities, and provincial and federal ministries and agencies.
Education & Experience
• Post-secondary education in economic development, business, commerce, or a related discipline.
• Minimum five (5) years of related experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of economic development principles, strategies, and practices.
• Experience in project management and working with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
• Knowledge of operating and capital budget processes.
• Understanding of relevant municipal legislation, policies, and procedures, including the Municipal Act, Planning Act, and Business Improvement Area legislation.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to develop productive relationships with businesses, investors, community organizations, government partners, and other stakeholders.
• Strong research, analytical, problem-solving, report-writing, and presentation skills.
• Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects, competing priorities, and deadlines.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
• Sound judgment, professionalism, discretion, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Client-focused and results-oriented approach to service delivery and continuous improvement.
• Strong computer skills and proficiency with applicable business software and technology.
Assets
• Professional certification or training in Economic Development.
• Municipal government education or training, including AMCTO programs.
Working Environment
This position operates in a dynamic municipal environment and requires the ability to manage multiple projects, stakeholder needs, deadlines, and changing priorities. Some evening, extended, or irregular hours may be required to attend meetings, events, or complete special projects.
