Arnprior has been named a Bee City

The Town of Arnprior is officially a bee city!

A Bee City is part of a North American movement to support pollinator protection. Bee City communities support collaboration and establish and maintain healthy pollinator habitat within the municipality or First Nation’s boundaries.

The Town of Arnprior is currently restoring pollinator habitat to support biodiversity, our natural environment, and food security. In partnership with the Canadian Wildlife Federation, we’re establishing a pollinator meadow in the marina along the waterfront trail. Seed mixes have been carefully selected to ensure this site supports and attracts pollinators. This site has been seeded in the fall of 2025, reseeded in the spring of 2026 and planted with 500 established native meadow plants. We will continue to work this site until it is thriving. The Town of Arnprior promotes pollinator-friendly practices through education, habitat restoration, and sustainable landscaping.

Our first perennial gardens have been installed at Town Hall and the Arnprior Library. These plants have the benefit of being salt tolerate, drought tolerant and require minimal inputs such as fertilizers. In addition, many of these plants are native to Ontario which means they have adapted to our local climate and support our local ecosystem. Our goal is to reduce maintenance while maximizing benefit to biodiversity.

By protecting bees and creating pollinator-friendly spaces, Arnprior is helping preserve the natural beauty and environmental health of the Ottawa Valley for future generations.
