Did you know? The Canadian Red Cross is winding down swimming lessons and lifeguard programs to focus on surging humanitarian demands in other areas.
What does this mean for you? As a result, the Town of Arnprior is transitioning from the Canadian Red Cross Swim program to the Lifesaving Society Swim for Life program in January 2023.
Swim for Life is a complete learn-to-swim program from Parent & Tot through to Leadership. The program is endorsed by the International Life Saving Federation and the Commonwealth Royal Life Saving Society.
There are five modules in the Swim for Life program:
The Society designed the modules to flow together seamlessly and logically into one another and into the basic lifesaving awards: Rookie, Ranger and Star Patrol
How do I register for swimming lessons? |
Swimming registration can be done online or in-person at the Nick Smith Centre. We strongly encourage you to register online as the high demand for lessons often leads to a quick sell out. When you register online, you have a greater chance at getting the course you are looking for.
Regardless if you register online or at the Nick Smith Centre, you need an account.
Registration can be completed by following this link.
Payment must be completed to register. Please note that Visa Debit is not accepted online. Only credit cards or account credit can be used to complete payment. You can pay with debit, credit, cash or account credit at the Nick Smith Centre. |
How do I know what level to register for? |

Do I qualify for Private Swim Lessons? |
Private Lessons are limited and are reserved for children with special needs. If you require private lessons, please complete the registration form available online or at the Nick Smith Centre and return it to the front desk or email it to recreation@arnprior.ca. Private Lessons are at a first-come, first-serve basis.
If you have questions or concerns, please contact the Nick Smith Centre at 613.623.7301 or recreation@arnprior.ca |
Troubleshooting Online Registration |
Ensure you know your log in credentials and have accessed your account prior to registration day. You can view the course you would like to register for a week before it opens. Find your course and become familiar with navigating the online system. Should you try to log in too many times you may have your account locked. If so, please contact the Nick Smith Centre at 613 623 7301 or recreation@arnprior.ca
Be sure the mailing address on your account matches the mailing address on your billing information.
If you are being charged the non-resident rate but believe you should be charged the resident rate, it is best to complete payment anyway and contact the Nick Smith Centre immediately. Removing the lesson from your cart will open the space up to the next person, resulting in you losing your spot.
Please note that the Nick Smith Centre is very busy on registration days. Phone lines may be busy and we will do our best to return your calls in a timely fashion. |

How can I help make swimming lessons successful? |
Is your child coming to swimming lessons for the first time? To help make their experience as stress free as possible we urge parents to bring their child to a Public Swim for play, splashing, and fun. We have many Public Swims and Parent & Tot Swims throughout the week.
Lessons are 10 weeks in length. You can view your schedule online on your account to see if there are any missed sessions to due to holidays. Any cancellations will be communicated.
Please arrive at least five minutes before the start of each session. Be prepared to help make the transition of your child to the instructor as comfortable as possible for everyone.
Parents may watch from the viewing room and are not permitted on the pool deck during lessons. You may return to deck five minutes prior to lessons ending to assist with the transition out of lessons.
Week 6 is progress week where instructors will speak to parents about their child's progress with report cards. Parents are welcomed back on deck ten minutes prior to the end of the lesson. |
