Welcome to Camp Wanna-Go! A summer day camp in Arnprior that has existed for decades, operated by the Town of Arnprior's Recreation Department. Camp Wanna-Go is a general camp with weekly themes and activities to give campers a new experience each week. Camp staff consist of summer students hired by the Town of Arnprior.

| Locations, Days, and Times |
|
Camp Wanna-Go is a Monday to Friday camp starting the week of June 29 and running through August 28. This camp operates out of the Town's recreation hub, the Nick Smith Centre (77 James Street) which is home to a pool, two ice pads, a community hall, park, splashpad, and ample green space. Camp runs from 8:30am to 3:30pm daily with extended hours available to purchase. Extended hours are 7:45am drop-off and pick-up to 4:30pm. |
| Ages and Capacity |
|
Ages Age 4-10 (Broken down to 3 groups - Younger, Middle, Older. Exact ages can vary each week)
Camp Wanna-Go has a capacity of 52 campers. This number is broken down in to groups of 3-4 depending on age and maturity of campers. |
|
Counsellor in Training (CIT) |
|
Ages: 11-13
A Counsellor in Training is a registration at a reduced rate that offers the family child care options while providing an age appropriate experience for the child. We understand that those in this age do not want to play or program with younger children and therefore we treat these registrants as a Counsellor in Training and expect them to act as an older sibling to the younger kids. This helps them also learn about leadership, communication, and problem solving at a younger age. |
| Fees |
|
Camp fees follow a $45 per day model meaning a typical 5-day week has a fee of $225.00 per child. A Counsellor in Training (CIT) fee is half of the cost of a General Camper at a fee of $22.50 per day, or $112.50 per week. Short weeks are pro-rated to 4 days. There are only 2 short weeks with Canada Day and Victoria Day.
Both fees are subject to non-resident rates of $67.50/day for general camper or $33.75/day for CIT.
Extended Hours (7:45am-4:30pm) - $75/week ($15/day)* * prorated on 4-day weeks |
|

| Programming |
|
Camp Wanna-Go has weekly themes to keep each week interesting. We often have children who join us all summer so we work to keep it fresh and fun all summer. Regardless of the week, campers will swim for 40-minutes in the pool at the Nick Smith Centre and skate for 50-minutes on the ice pad. Friday is our downtown adventure day where we drop-off and pick-up at the Emmanual Anglican Church (287 Harrington Street). On Fridays, we visit the O'Brien Theatre for a movie, bowl for an hour at Steelheads and Strikes, and visit parks and play structures. Your registration includes admission to each activity as well as popcorn and a drink at the movie theatre. |
| Policies and Safety Measures |
|
Allergies - Camp Wanna-Go is a peanut free camp as that is the most common allergy. Your registration form will ask you about your child's allergies which will be reviewed by staff. Should your child have a food allergy, we will alert other parents registered in camp and inform that that this food is not permitted in this week. Camp Staff will also monitor children's lunches and snacks to ensure safety.
Health Conditions - Your registration form will ask if there are any health conditions that we should be aware of. This information is confidential and will be kept among staff in camp. We ask this information to be aware of any potential threats to your child. This also helps us understand what may be of issue if a child is feeling unwell.
Pick-Up - Your registration form will ask who is an authorized pick-up of your child. Staff will become familiar with those commonly picking up and dropping off at camp. Pool - The Town of Arnprior has an Aquatics Admissions Standards that dictates whether or not a child needs a lifejacket in the pool based on the assessment of their swim test. Please refer to that document by clicking the link above. Note that Camp Counsellors will be in the pool with the children as well.
Ice Skating - All children and staff on the ice require a helmet. We have a limited number of skates and helmets for use. Staff are on the ice with the kids to assist in skating as well as skate aids for them to lean on. Staff also help tie skates.
Behavioural - Camp Wanna-Go has a strict bullying and behavioural policy to ensure a safe and inclusive environment. The following steps are taken to address inappropriate behaviours.
Note: these steps may be escalated due to the severity of the infraction (i.e. violence, threats)
Staffing Ratio - Camp Counsellors work in a ratio of 1:8 with campers. Staff are never left alone and always work in at least a pair of 2. |
| Campers Requiring Additional Support |
|
Camp Wanna-Go strives to be a safe and inclusive environment for all children. We partner with Community Living Renfrew South to provide support to families with children who require a 1:1 support. Furthermore, Camp Wanna-Go has an Inclusive Camp Counsellor designed to work in a 4:1 ratio with campers. This position is designed to support children who do not need 1-on-1 but would require redirection or assistance to stay involved in the activities of camp. There will be a question on your registration asking if your child requires support. We ask that you provide us as much information as possible so we can safely plan for each week. Help us help your child. We are also happy to meet and discuss plans for your child ahead of registration. If you would like to discuss this, please contact recreation@arnprior.ca |
