Environmental Advisory Committee

Meetings of the EAC are held monthly between March and November of each year. Please consult the Calendar of Council and Committee Meetings to find out when the next meeting is. You can also explore past and present meeting agenda packages and minutes.

All Council and Committee meetings held by the Town of Arnprior are open to the public, unless noted otherwise. Learn more about how to attend a Council or Committee meeting.

Council appoints up to seven (7) members to the CDAC for a four-year term to coincide with the term of Council which includes two (2) Members of Council and up to five (5) Citizen Members. The current EAC membership includes:

The Advisory Committee’s goals and objectives are to provide advice and make recommendations to Council on:

• Developing ways to further conserve and protect the natural environment, including improvements to existing and future Town programs, services, policies and planning. 
• To request, where necessary, input from the public and community partners concerning areas of improvement and future protection of the natural environment.
• To ensure that the community engages in action-oriented strategies that are aligned with the principles of relevant Town and Regional strategies.
• Assist the Town in the preparation of a community energy plan, designed to improve energy efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and foster local sustainable energy solutions.
• The committee will work in alignment with other committees of Council

The Arnprior Environmental Advisory Committee values engagement as a tool to encourage discussion and increase the community's capacity to inform policy. We do this in three ways:

1. We welcome community engagement through our committee meetings, which residents are welcome to attend. The public can also submit a request to present or speak at the committees. If you are interested in speaking with the committee, see here.
2. We work diligently with the Town of Arnprior Staff. Town staff are present at every meeting to share updates on projects, concerns heard in our community and present improvement opportunities.
3. The creation of the Environmental Advisory Committee (EAC) Priorities Survey, which was posted on the Town’s public engagement portal Civil Space on July 15, 2024, and remained open to the public until September 30, 2024. During that period, the survey was shared on social media channels, and email notifications were made available at the Sunday Farmers Market. In total, the survey received 275 individual responses, which included detailed feedback and comments. These results helped the committee understand its objectives and our residents' preferred approach.

The committee’s goal is to implement projects that protect and enhance native plant and wildlife habitats, promoting biodiversity through community engagement, education, and habitat restoration projects.

Healthy Waterways Management

Our role is to advocate for best practices in watershed management, including pollution reduction initiatives and the preservation of natural waterways, to ensure clean and sustainable water resources for all.

Waste Reduction Initiatives

The committee is looking at developing and promoting strategies to reduce waste at the community level, including recycling programs, composting initiatives, and educational campaigns that encourage sustainable consumption.

Carbon Footprint Reduction

The committee’s goal is to collaborate with residents to promote reducing greenhouse gas emissions, renewable energy sources, active transportation and community education.
