In the province of Ontario, you need a marriage licence to get married.
Please complete a Marriage Licence Application form or pick one up at Town Hall. You and your partner both need to sign the form. The licence expires 90 days from the date of issue and can be used anywhere in Ontario.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old and must provide proof of age. Two pieces of identification, one containing a photo, are required.
If you are 16 or 17 years old, you require your parents' approval. Please contact Marriage Licencing Administration for more details.
If you were married before, you must submit the original or court certified copy of the Decree Absolute or Certificate of Divorce. A divorce judgment is not acceptable. Certified copies may be obtained from the court that granted the divorce. All documents will be returned.
If a divorce was granted outside of Canada, please contact Marriage Licencing Administration for more information.
A marriage licences costs $125 for residents of the Town of Arnprior and $150 for non residents.
After the marriage ceremony, the bride and groom receive a Record of Solemnization of Marriage. This is not a marriage certificate.
A marriage certificate contains the details of a marriage that was performed in Ontario. You will need the certificate in order to change your name, process a divorce or record your family history. You may apply for a marriage certificate online through Service Ontario.
We offer civil marriage ceremonies by appointment. Please contact Marriage Licencing Administration. We will go over all of the necessary arrangements before your special day. You can also read the Marriage Ceremony Package for more information on the civil ceremony process.
