Update December 5, 2025 7:00 pm: The watermain on Havey Street has now been repaired and water service has been restored to all properties. Residents within the immediately effected area are advised to run their cold water tap for at least two minutes or until the water runs clear to remove any air from their service lateral. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we worked to restore service.
At approximately 9:00 am on Thursday December 4th, the Town of Arnprior experienced a major watermain break on a large diameter trunk watermain in the vicinity of the Water Treatment Plant, which feeds the distribution system. Areas of the Town experienced a drop in water pressure due to the damaged watermain which was under construction as part of the Town’s Watermain River Crossing project. The Town’s Public Works staff were on site and immediately isolated the problem area, limiting the impact. Pressure was affected to many households on the west side of the Madawaska River. The issue was isolated within minutes and water services restored to most of the town.
Staff immediately convened the Town’s Emergency Management Control Group and notified the Renfrew County District Health Unit. Initial notice was given to the public at 9:27 am while the Town waited on direction from the health unit. Upon receiving direction from the health unit at 10:16 am, the Town issued an update through Town communications at 10:30 am.
Repairs continue to the watermain however approximately 30 homes in the immediate area of the damage remain without water service. The Town has communicated directly with those residents affected and is providing potable water along with shower and washroom facilities at the Nick Smith Centre. We appreciate this disruption can be inconvenient and stressful, and we greatly thank everyone for their cooperation during this time.
As a reminder, under the direction of the Renfrew County District Health Unit, residents are advised to flush their taps for 2 minutes or until the water runs clear. Please note that there may be air in your water lines which will dissipate with the opening of taps. If you are experiencing any other water related issues, please contact the Town at 613-623-4231.
As a reminder, the Town has multiple ways you can stay informed, including Arnprior.ca, Facebook, Instagram and X accounts, as well as the Arnprior App (ensure you have push notifications turned on under settings).
