
Whereas October 20th to October 26th, 2025, marks Waste Reduction Week that has been recognized by municipalities, environmental groups and industry across Canada since 2001; and
Whereas Waste Reduction Week is a national environmental campaign that builds awareness around the issues of sustainability and responsible consumption, encourages choice for more environmentally responsible products and services, and promotes actions that divert more waste from disposal while conserving our natural resources; and
Whereas we, as a municipality, are committed to waste reduction, resource conservation, and community education for sustainable living; and
Whereas we, as a municipality, will take action to reduce our waste and support the circular economy through a public education campaign aimed at bolstering environmentally friendly practices that will assist in reducing our waste. This year’s themes include:
• Construction Monday
• Textiles Tuesday
• E-Waste Wednesday
• Plastics Thursday
• Food Waste Friday
• Share, Reuse, Repair Saturday and Sunday
Whereas The Arnprior + District Museum will be inviting Yulia Shtern and Sanjay Sundram to mount an exhibit called Waste Not, Want That: Climate Change Through Art and Action, from November 2025 through March 2026. Part of the exhibit includes free papier mâché with art workshop on November 1st and a panel about recycling on November 8th for members of the public to participate in; and
Whereas Schools are invited to participate in Climate Change and Art School Tour at the Arnprior + District Museum that explores issues in sustainability through art as social change; and
Whereas residents are invited to participate in an upcycle contest to reuse materials in a Halloween Costume during Waste Reduction Week to win a family swim or skate pass, details for which can be found at www.arnprior.ca.
Now Therefore I, Lisa McGee, Mayor, do hereby proclaim October 20th to 26th, 2025, as Waste Reduction Week in the Town of Arnprior and urge residents to prioritize environmental sustainability by purchasing environmentally responsible products and services, diverting unnecessary waste from garbage disposal and conserving natural resources.
