Council Highlights - October 23rd, 2023

Delegation from Arnprior Lion’s Club

Arnprior Lion’s Club members Bill Gardiner and Don Gourgeon presented Council with a proposal to partner with the Town on the completion of an Amphitheatre at Hydro Park as part of the Waterfront Master Plan projects. The Lion’s Club will celebrate 80 years of service in the Town of Arnprior in 2026 and they would be pleased to contribute to this as a legacy project in celebration.

Public Meetings

Council held statutory public meetings to receive public comments for the following Planning Act applications:

a)    OPA No. 7 and ZBLA No. 5/23 - Arthur Street

b)    ZBLA No. 6/23 - 50 Carss Street

c)    OPA No. 8 and ZBLA No. 7/23 - Norma and Charlotte Street, South

Follow-up reports will be provided to Council for consideration of the applications at a future meeting.

Municipal Audit Services

Council award KPMG LLP the contract for municipal audit services for the fiscal years ending December 31, 2023, 2024, 2025 with the option to extend for 2026 and 2027.

Design Options for the Replacement of the Nick Smith Centre Rinks

Staff presented a report to Council which outlined four options for the design of the replacement of the Nick Smith Centre two ice surfaces. Staff conduct an options analysis to provide all reasonable options available for the final design including refrigeration methods, layout options and possible economizations. Council approved Design Option #4 and authorized $ 113,237.71 in funding from the Capital Expenditure Reserve Fund (CERF) to cover increased design costs.

Resolutions

Council approved the support requests from the following;

• Arnprior Regional Health Foundation – Penny Stashick Ugly Christmas Sweater Walk to provide in-kind support through waiving of rental fees for Robert Simpson Park Gazebo rental for their event on December 2^nd, 2023.

• Arnprior District Humane Society – Feliz Naughty Dog Bake and Craft Sale to provide in-kind support for the waiving of fees at the Nick Smith Centre Community Hall for their event on November 12^th, 2023.

• Arnprior Santa Claus Parade – to provide in-kind support for the event being held on November 25^th, 2023.

• Council approved a resolution of support for Renfrew County Victim Services to declare Intimate Partner Violence an epidemic in accordance with the Culleton/Kuzyk/ Warmerdam inquest recommendations.

• Council agreed to provide a letter of support for the continuation of funding for the Mental Health Services of Renfrew County Hoarding Program through the Pembroke Regional Hospital.

Proclamations

Council issued a proclamation for the following important date:

• Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week (November 1^st – 7^th, 2023)
