The Town of Arnprior is thrilled to unveil a variety of new play features and the Town’s second splash pad at the expanded Fairview Park.
With the additional park land received through the Fairgrounds Community development, the Town has transformed an existing passive park into the community’s newest destination park featuring a splash pad, parkour circuit, swing set, preschool play structure and play berm.
“This park has it all and is a perfect way to celebrate Recreation and Parks Month,” said Mayor Lisa McGee. “This is a wonderful addition to our parks offerings that will not only serve the immediate neighbourhood, but also the broader public as it is situated adjacent to our recreation hub – the Nick Smith Centre – making access to amenities likes washrooms, changerooms and parking all the more beneficial to this park space.”
This project began in 2024 as part of a competitive public tender that included this new and improved Fairview Park as well as establishing the first park in Marshall’s Bay Meadows subdivision. These two projects saw an investment of $737,000 into parks amenities in Arnprior.
“Public engagement is what brought these play features to life at Fairview Park,” said Director of Recreation Graeme Ivory. “The idea of a parkour circuit was raised when we visited local schools and met with our community’s youth during the Recreation and Parks Master Plan process. The demand for another splash pad was also a product of that engagement process. We’re grateful for everyone’s input and excited to have these new features in our community.”
The parkour circuit includes nine different stations challenging the user’s upper and lower body, balance and critical thinking. Ten unique water features (13 total) are included in the fully accessible splash pad for all to enjoy. The swing set has two banks of swings – a pair of belt seats, one inclusive seat and one child’s seat, while the pre-school play structure has a number of features to enhance sensory development, climbing and sliding. The pre-school play structure will be available to the public in the coming days as it requires repairs to a manufacturer's defect.
The play structure areas have an engineered wood fibre play base, and the splashpad has a concrete base supporting accessibility to all new play features.
A total of 23 new trees were added to this park along with benches and waste and recycling receptacles as part of this project. Between the two parks, 40 new trees have been added.
The splash pad will be operational daily from 8am-9pm during the summer. Splash pad users are welcome to utilize the pool change rooms, washrooms and showers inside the Nick Smith Centre during operational hours.
Fairview Park is accessible from the rear parking lot of the Nick Smith Centre, from Fairview Crescent or from Mac Beattie Drive.
The Town of Arnprior thanks Strathmar Trenching Inc. and Jp2g for their efforts in delivering these new amenities to serve our growing community.
