Community Input on Local Policing Priorities

The South Ottawa Valley OPP Detachment Board, formerly known as the Renfrew and Area OPP Detachment Board, represents the Township of Admaston/Bromley, Town of Arnprior, Township of Greater Madawaska, Horton Township, Township of McNab/Braeside, Town of Renfrew, and Township of Whitewater Region.

Along with its legislated duties, the Board is considered a bridge between the community and the police, working collaboratively with the Ontario Provincial Police Detachment Commander, advising on effective policing in accordance with the needs of our geographic area.

The Renfrew OPP is preparing its 2026-2029 Detachment Action Plan and is requesting input from community members to inform policing priorities for the next several years.

Community collaboration is key to ensuring that policing efforts are responsive, effective, and aligned with the needs of those served by the Renfrew OPP Detachment. Your feedback will play a critical role in identifying the issues that matter most to you, your family, and your neighbors.

The South Ottawa Valley OPP Detachment Board is requesting your input through a 5 to 10 minute survey on local policing priorities; results from which will assist the Renfrew OPP Detachment in shaping police priorities and the development of their 2026-2029 Detachment Action Plan.

We invite residents to provide their perspectives on key priorities for local policing, such as:

Public safety and crime prevention
Community engagement and partnerships
Support for vulnerable populations
Traffic and road safety
Emergency response and preparedness

Whether you are concerned about a specific issue or simply want to share your thoughts, your input is important. The OPP is committed to creating a comprehensive action plan that reflects the diverse needs and concerns of our community.

How to Participate

A brief online survey has been developed to gather your perspectives and priorities regarding policing in your community. The survey is entirely anonymous, and all responses will be compiled to identify overall themes and priorities.

Additionally, a public consultation is being organized for individuals who prefer to participate in person or have limited access to the online survey. Details regarding the location and time will be announced soon.

The consultation period is scheduled from July18, 2025 to August 10, 2025. All community members are invited to participate and provide input on the development of a policing plan that aims to be effective, equitable, and responsive to community needs.

Your participation will assist us in:

Understanding community concerns and priorities related to safety, law enforcement, and local policing practices.
Identifying key areas for improvement in police-community relations and areas where collaboration can be enhanced.
Fostering open dialogue to encourage mutual understanding and strengthen partnerships between the police and the community.
Ensuring that the action plan is responsive to the needs and expectations of the community, with a focus on addressing both immediate and long-term challenges.
Empowering community members to have a voice in shaping policies and actions that impact their safety and well-being.
Supporting the local Community Safety and Well-Being Plan by aligning police actions with broader community goals to enhance overall safety and quality of life.
