Children under the age of 12 must be supervised by an adult (16 years of age or older) while at the Nick Smith Centre, unless the program is designated to be a parent-free program (example: youth nights, day camp, youth programing). An adult must remain present for programs such as swimming lessons and drop-in activities such as public swimming or public skating.
Aquatic Admission Standards

- Access to shallow end of the pool only
Children 6 - 10 years
- Children who do not successfully complete the swim test* must be accompanied by an adult/guardian 16 years of age or older who remains in the water and within arm's reach at all times. Ratio of guardian/children is 1:4
- Access to shallow end of the pool only.
Children 6 - 10 years
- Children who successfully complete the swim test* must be accompanied by a guardian over 16 years of age who remains within the pool or viewing area. Ratio of guardian/children is 1:8

Swim Test*
All children 10 and younger who attend any public swims or pool rentals including birthday parties and wish to swim in the deep end, must complete a brief swim test prior to entering the deep end of our pool. Children that successfully complete the test will be given a Swim Test wristband to wear. Only those children with a Swim Test wristband are allowed to swim in the deep end.
The Swim Test consists of:
- Swimming 2 widths of the pool uninterrupted without goggles, with face in.
- If Lane Ropes are in, the swim test will become swimming 1 length of the pool with 20 seconds treading water.
