Reporting to the Program and Event Coordinator, the Program Staff will provide operational support by providing direct leadership to various recreational programs offered by the Town of Arnprior’s Recreation Department, for all segments of the community.
The primary responsibilities for this position include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Provide support to respective Recreation Staff including but not limited to the Director of Recreation, Program and Events Coordinator, Aquatic and Facility Services Supervisor, key volunteers, fellow Program Staff and facility maintenance staff.
- Perform direct instruction and leadership for a variety of recreational and sport programs offered by the Recreation Department. These programs may include, but are not limited to: public skating, volleyball, Little People’s Pre-School Program, ball hockey, basketball, holiday and special camps, summer park program, lending hub program, to name a few.
- Responsible to provide ongoing customer service to all participants of Town programming and to maintain a positive and professional manner at all times.
- Provide general maintenance of the facility during events, by conducting regular checks of facility equipment, and by reporting any unsafe conditions, damage, and/or vandalism to the Recreation Program Coordinator, facility staff or other supervisory staff.
- Assist with special events setup, operation, and teardown including but not limited to assisting members of the public with directions or any inquiries they may have, preparing and operating activities for the day, grounds control, including clean-up, and other tasks as required by the specific event.
- Perform work in accordance with applicable Provincial and Municipal legislations and regulations including the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, and in accordance with internal Town policies and procedures.
- Protect the health and safety of others and oneself by adopting safe work practices, reporting unsafe conditions immediately, using personal protective equipment as required by the nature of the position, and attending all relevant in-services training regarding occupational health and safety.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of:
- Ability to obtain a clear Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Demonstrated experience working in a team environment.
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to maintain a professional demeanour at all times when dealing with clients, staff, volunteers and the general public.
- Ability to work with all age groups (Children, Adults, Seniors, etc.)
- Physically capable to perform general labour and maintenance duties.
- Capable of following safe work practices and procedures.
- First Aid and CPR-AED Certification preferred.
- Previous occupational health and safety knowledge would be an asset.
- Previous experience facilitating recreational programs would be an asset.
- High Five Training would be an asset.
