Wage: $24.20 - $28.47 / hr
The Digitization Project Manager position will be responsible for “The Next Step to Accessibility” project including overseeing photographing and scanning of Museum collection pieces and ensuring high quality digital images and their organization.
This position is funded by a successful application to the Canadian Heritage Museum Assistance Program in support of digital access to heritage. The position is dependent on funds received from that agency.
The Digitization Project Manager will be responsible for (but not limited to) the following:
- Plans and coordinates the safe handling of Museum collection pieces to permit their careful, detailed, and efficient photography or scanning.
- Establish and maintain comfortable collaborative working relationships with other members of the Digitization team and Museum staff.
- Work closely with the Manager of Culture/Curator and Collections Coordinator to plan the digitization process concurrently in two locations.
- Develop and implement a digitization log and a digitized media management protocol for the project.
- Support Museum staff in the delivery of database materials to the Argus consultants.
- Familiarize themselves with the storage areas of the museum to facilitate an easy and careful digitization process in all.
- Work regularly with the Collections Coordinator to support the digitization process: i.e., moving and posing large objects, setting up mannequins to display clothing, changing backdrops, etc.
- Record information throughout the process in a digitization log, such as errors in location/labels, missing descriptions, inadequate record entries, conservation and numbering concerns, supply shortages, etc.
- Participate in daily and weekly briefings with Museum staff and convey information to digitization assistants.
- Work with the ADM Collections Coordinator to rehouse collection pieces safely.
- Undergraduate Degree in History, Archeology, Museum Studies or related field.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in a related environment or managing complex projects.
- Knowledge of digital collections management and handling collection pieces.
- Knowledge of museology and best museum practices.
- Organized with a demonstrated ability to coordinate digital filing and naming systems in a way intelligible to others.
- Interpersonal skills and experience with collaborative, team-based work environments.
- Ability to multi-task and move the various components of a complex project forward.
- Ability to track and evaluate various priorities and report back on milestones achieved.
- Advanced computer skills and ability to use various software applications including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, etc.) and databases.
The successful candidate will have as a minimum the following qualifications:
- Undergraduate Degree in History, Archeology, Museum Studies or related field.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in a related environment or managing complex projects.
- Knowledge of digital collections management and handling collection pieces.
- Knowledge of museology and best museum practices.
- Organized with a demonstrated ability to coordinate digital filing and naming systems in a way intelligible to others.
- Interpersonal skills and experience with collaborative, team-based work environments.
- Ability to multi-task and move the various components of a complex project forward.

Asset Qualifications
- Conservation and collections management training will be considered an asset.
- Experience with databases and photography or scanning considered an asset.
- Certificate in Museum Studies is considered an asset.
- Project management training/certification will be considered an asset.
- Experience and understanding of PastPerfect considered an asset.
