| Strategic Plan
In early 2001, The Council of the
Town of Arnprior took a positive step into the future by
undertaking a Community Strategic Plan. Strategic Planning
is a way of managing for the future, by determining where we are
now, where we want to be in the future and how we are going to
get there. This process, which concluded in early 2003,
involved community groups, individuals and business people
totaling over 500 people.
Where are we now?
Participants pointed to
Arnprior's location on the Ottawa and Madawaska Rivers, its
friendly, caring and active people, and its strong and diverse
industrial base as strengths. Participants pointed to the
lack of housing for seniors and the need for a more varied
business core as weaknesses. It was felt that Arnprior had
opportunities in the areas of tourism, waterfront development
and industrial expansion. People want Arnprior to retain its
self-sufficient small town atmosphere and also felt that
Arnprior needs long term planning, positive leadership and
vision to achieve these goals.
A Vision for Arnprior in the
Year 2010
Arnprior in the year 2010 will be
a small town of 10,000 - 12,000 citizens, which maintains and
cherishes its culture and heritage. It has vibrant
downtown and waterfront areas which attract tourists and locals
alike. Its strong economic base boasts world-class,
environmentally aware industries, a full range of businesses,
services and shopping, and a steady supply of affordable
housing.
How will we get there?
To achieve this vision, Town
Council and community members must set priorities, invest in
resources effectively and review its progress and priorities on
a regular basis.
