| The
Gillies Grove - Walk through
it and you are passing through history! |
| Situated on the north-west corner of Arnprior,
Gillies Grove is a rare remnant of the magnificent forest that once covered this region.
It is one of the last such tracts of Old Growth in the province. |
|
| The Grove is a living
natural resource, a complex ecosystem that has been evolving ever since the Champlain Sea
left this region about 10,000 years ago. |
| The Grove's unique natural environment harbours multitudes of creatures, some quite
rare and elusive. Scarlet Tanagers, Pileated Woodpeckers, Red-shouldered Hawks, and Barred
Owls all call the Grove 'home'. |

|
|
The Grove is also home to a rich array of plant life. In spring, the forest floor
is a living carpet of Hepaticas, Spring Beauties, Violets, and both Red and White
Trilliums. In summer, White Baneberry and Indian Pipe punctuate the lush green
under-storey.
|
| The Grove, nearly 45 acres of Old Forest is an irreplaceable resource that will enrich
the lives of our children and many generations to come. |
