Fireworks Safety Information

  • If you wish to report outdoor burning which posed a safety concern or nuisance, please complete the attached complaint form and follow the instructions for forwarding to the fire department

  • Landlords and/or building managers who perform regular smoke alarm maintenance and tests may want to consider using the attached form to record their actions. Smoke Alarm Maintenance Check sheet

Building owners are responsible to ensure smoke alarms are installed, maintained, and functioning. Tenants should test smoke alarms in their apartments and notify landlords of any problems or concerns.
   Top Ten Fire Safety Tips
  1. Install smoke alarms on each level of your home and outside sleeping areas.
  2. Make sure you have two clear exits from any room
  3. Never smoke while drowsy or when you are in bed
  4. Use sturdy , non-tip ashtrays and check for smouldering cigarette butts in furniture, especially after parties.
  5. Never leave food that is cooking unattended.
  6. Use space heaters with care.  Keep them away from combustibles
  7. Have your chimney and central heating system inspected once a year
  8. Store matches and lighters in high places out of reach of children
  9. Never store gasoline in your home
  10. Identify your house with large numbers so the fire department can see easily
Fire Department personnel - Full time Fire Chief  , two Fire Prevention/ Protection Officers and 30 firefighters of whom six are officers consisting of Deputy Chief, Assistant Deputy and four captains. The Arnprior Fire Department is part of the Renfrew County Mutual Aid System and also has an Automatic Aid agreement with the City of Ottawa.

Training sessions for the town's 30 firefighters are held on a weekly basis.  Fire fighters are trained on a variety of rescue procedures including:  water and ice rescue, search and rescue, auto extrication, arson investigation, post fire evaluations, foam training, hose testing, aerial training, ventilation, CPR and ladder drills.
