The Good Government Act 2009 (Bill 212) has recently
been enacted by the Ontario Legislature. This Act makes several
amendments to the Municipal Elections Act, 1996. Changes include,
but are not limited to, key dates in the election calendar, greater
accessibility to electors and candidates with disabilities, campaign
financing rules and candidate contribution limits.
Nominations for the Town of Arnprior 2010 municipal
election may be filed beginning January 4, 2010 for the offices of
Mayor, Reeve, Councillor and Trustee for the English public, English
separate, French public and French separate school boards.
The term of office is from December 1, 2010 to
November 30, 2014.
Upon filing a nomination paper with the Clerk,
candidates must provide a declaration of qualification, proof of
qualifying address within the Town of Arnprior or school board
jurisdiction, and pay the appropriate filing fee.
Nomination papers are available from the Clerk’s
Office, Town Hall, 105 Elgin Street West, Arnprior, and must be
filed Monday - Friday between 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. until September
9, 2010 and on Nomination Day, September 10, 2010, from 9 a.m. to 2
p.m.
Note: No person who proposes to be a candidate may
solicit or accept contributions for election purposes or incur
campaign expenses until he or she has filed a nomination paper.
