Composting

Why should we compost?  To reduce garbage.  Up to 40% of the garbage we throw out each week can go in the compost pile.  By cutting domestic waste, our landfill site will have a longer life span.  Composting is also environmentally friendly, providing valuable nutrient-rich soil for gardens and lawns.

Do I need a bin? No. Organic matter will eventually decompose, but a container of some sort will keep your pile neat, protect it from weather and pests, and make the job of tending it much easier.
Where is the best place to put a compost pile? A sheltered location, out of the full sun if possible.  Avoid trees and shrubs that may push their roots into the pile.  Consider both convenience and appearance.
Composters Composters may be picked up by residents of Arnprior at the municipal offices for a fee of $30.00
Can I compost in the winter? Keep adding to the compost through the winter months.  It may not appear to be doing much, but the frozen materials will quickly finish breaking down when the spring comes.
